The Art of the Ancestors: Fused Glass Rondelle Beads
We are thrilled to showcase these stunning strands of powder glass African beads, handcrafted by skilled artisans in Ghana. These beads are a beautiful reproduction of historic Venetian "fancy" trade beads, bringing a touch of global heritage to your creative desk.
The Journey of a Bead
Sustainable Artistry: Each bead begins as recycled bottles and other glass items, which are crushed into a fine powder.
Molded by Hand: The powder is poured into clay molds. To create the holes, a cassava leaf stalk is placed in the center; it burns away during firing, leaving a perfect channel.
Firing: The molds go into a wood-fired clay kiln. The heat "fuses" the powder into a solid shape.
Polishing: Once cooled, the beads are rubbed against a flat stone with sand and water to smooth the surface and reveal the vibrant colors
These beads are entirely handmade, meaning no two are exactly alike. Their vibrant colors and unique textures make them an impressive addition to any necklace or bracelet.
