Chrysocolla-Malachite is a very beautiful stone. Chrysocolla stone, a copper silicate, blends well with Malachite, a copper carbonate.  This colorful blue green gemstone material is found in the oxidation zone of major copper deposits, often in the same piece of rock.  Malachite has nearly identical chemical formula as Azurite, which is often found with Chrysocolla and Malachite. It is how oxidation occurs that accounts for the color differences.

Chrysocolla is a wonderful combination of a variety of greens to intense blues, with a hint of brown. It is a minor ore of copper. Chrysocolla is often found in association with Malachite and Azurite in masses, crusts or vein fillings. It is often found in Indonesia, Israel, Democratic Republic of Congo, Chile, England, and China. In the United Sates it can be found in several states, including Arizona, Utah, Idaho, Colorado, New Mexico, Michigan, and Pennsylvania.

The name “Chrysocolla” is derived from the Greek chrysos, meaning “gold”, and kolla, meaning “glue”, because the ancient Greeks used this semiprecious stone when soldering gold.

Malachite is a common mineral that is easily identifiable by its gorgeous banded and varied shades of greens. However, with over 50% copper content, it is toxic if ingested or inhaled. Malachite is a copper carbonate

hydroxide mineral. It often results from the weathering of copper ores. Except for its vibrant green color, the properties of Malachite are like those of Azurite and the two are frequently found together. Malachite is more common than Azurite.

Hardness 3.5–4

This is a natural stone that has had no treatment other than cutting, and polishing.
